About Our Composite Filling Services

Children are more susceptible to cavities than adults.

This may be the case because they eat more sugar and aren’t fully capable of brushing and flossing their teeth properly. Additionally, baby teeth have a thinner layer of enamel than adult teeth. The outcome tends to be more cavities found during your child’s early years than found later on in their life.

When there is a breakdown of the enamel either by bacteria or trauma, areas of decay called cavities can develop. Cavities create holes in the teeth which often lead to further destruction of the tooth.

Cavities can impact the oral and general health and confidence level your child has.

Teeth brushing and low sugar in the diet along with routine dental cleanings are key to avoiding cavities.

What Are Children’s Composite Fillings?

Composite fillings, also known as resin fillings, are a composite or combination of a glass or quartz filler that can be made to look like the color of a natural tooth. Composite fillings are also durable and ideal for minor restorations in areas of the mouth that perform moderate chewing.

If your child has cavities, composite fillings are an excellent choice for long-lasting and effective protection.

About The Composite Filling Procedure

Dental fillings can take around an hour to perform. This gives Dr. Tippets and his team enough time to take x-rays (if needed), talk to you about the procedure, and complete the dental work.

Before the cavities are filled, Dr. Tippets will numb the gums with a topical anesthetic prior to injecting numbing medicine deeper into the gums; this process helps to ensure that the nerves are entirely numb and your child feels minimal to no pain during the procedure.

Next, Dr. Tippets will remove the decay in the tooth and replace it with a filling. This part of the procedure usually only takes a few minutes.

Once complete, your child’s mouth will probably remain numb for a few more hours. It’s important to avoid chewing or any other activity that could cause your child to bite down on his/her tongue or cheek and unknowingly hurt themselves

There are few, if any, significant risks associated with getting cavities filled, but be sure to keep our contact information on hand in case any questions or complications arise after you return home following a composite filling procedure.
