Children's Sedation Dentistry

Children's Sedation Dentistry by Type:

  1. Nitrous Oxide – Otherwise known as laughing gas
  2. Oral Conscious Sedation – A liquid we mix with juice that your child will drink
  3. General Anesthesia – An anesthesiologist will put your child to sleep

3 Different Types of Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous Oxide (a.k.a. Laughing Gas)

At Reunion Pediatric Dentistry, we provide the option to use nitrous oxide, a safe in-office sedation substance that gently puts your child into a relaxed and peaceful state, making the procedure go more smoothly for all involved.

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective gas that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over the nose to help your child relax. Within a few short minutes the effects of the gas will start to take effect. While it is not intended to put your child “to sleep,” it will help put them into a state of relaxation. Your child will still be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly once treatment is completed.

Oral Conscious Sedation

When it comes to performing dental procedures on children, sedation can be helpful to make your child calm and as comfortable as possible without “going under” full general anesthesia.

When advised that their child may need sedation in order to provide necessary and sometimes extensive dental treatment, parents may be understandably anxious However, as a pediatric dentist, Dr. Tippets is trained in the safe administration of sedation medications and the appropriate monitoring of the sedated child.

General Anesthesia

At Reunion Pediatric Dentistry we also offer general anesthesia with the assistance of an anesthesiologist. Unconscious sedation allows your child to have the necessary dental care they need without pain, fear, or even a memory of the procedure.

Our goal is to ensure your child’s visit to our office is as easy and stress-free as possible. That’s why we offer multiple sedation options to ensure your child’s needs are met.

At Reunion Pediatric Dentistry, we will work with you to determine the type of sedation that will best suit your child and will work well with the treatment they need to have done. There’s no reason to let fear or anxiety stop your child from getting the dental work they need.
