Help Your Child Feel More Comfortable At The Dentist

At Reunion Pediatric Dentistry, it is very important to us that we make your child’s first visit as positive and enjoyable as possible! With our years of experience in pediatric dentistry, we know just what your child needs to feel safe in our office. From our fun colors and cheerful decor to our positive attitudes and friendly smiles, your child won’t have to worry when they come to us for care. We also offer sedation services if needed.

We encourage parents to prepare their little ones for the dentist by role playing at home in a comfortable, safe environment setting. This allows them to have some familiarity of the process and what could happen at the dentist’s office. It’s also helpful to reduce unnecessary stress by not using words such as “needles”, “drills”, etc…

Together you and our dental team here in Reunion, CO can help reduce any fear your child may have by explaining procedures in positive and nonthreatening ways so everyone has a great experience at the dentist.

We also welcome you to take advantage of “Happy Visits” where you and your child come to get familiar with our staff and office. Please stop by or call anytime! Special toys or other comfort items are welcome as well.

At What Age Should Dental Visits for Kids Start?

It is recommended that kids have their first dental visit 6 months after the first tooth comes in or by 12 months of age. During this first visit, as a pediatric dentist, Dr. Tippets will discuss a variety of topics important for the healthy development of your child’s teeth including:

  • How to prevent tooth decay and cavities
  • Teething – what to expect and how to manage your baby’s discomfort
  • How to brush and keep your child’s teeth clean

At the visit, Dr. Tippets will be happy to discuss and address any concerns you may have about your child’s dental health.

What Happens During My Kid’s First Dental Visit?

Typically, the first visit takes about 30-45 minutes and involves a general exam of your child’s mouth, gums, bite and examination of any teeth that are present.

Depending on your child’s age, a gentle cleaning may be done as well to familiarize your child with the process. The visit may also include polishing of any teeth and removal of plaque, tartar or stains.

Dental X-rays are not typically done on infants and toddlers unless absolutely necessary.

Get in touch with our office today to learn more about working with Dr. Tippets and how we can offer the best dental care for your child.

Does Reunion Pediatric Dentistry See Kids with Special Needs?

Absolutely!

At Reunion Pediatric Dentistry, we believe every child deserves quality, compassionate dental care, especially kids with special needs. Most parents may not be aware of it at first, but kids with special needs are at a higher risk of gum disease, oral trauma, and tooth decay; and Dr. Tippets and his team understand their need for special attention and care. If you have a child with any developmental or congenital condition, we want you to know they have a place here at Reunion Pediatric Dentistry. They will be welcome and receive exceptional dental care with special consideration to their unique needs.

Dr. Tippets and his team at Reunion Pediatric Dentistry also understand that many kids with special needs have heightened oral sensitivity and may find it difficult to wait or sit for long periods of time in the dental chair. At our Pediatric Dentistry office in Reunion, CO you will find experienced and caring staff members that are willing to work with you and your child to make their dental visit as pleasant as possible.

Please do not hesitate to call ahead or let us know at any time what we can do to make your child feel comfortable when visiting us. We welcome and encourage special “happy visits” where you and your child just come to get familiar with our office and staff, maybe play a little in our waiting room so please stop by or call anytime.

Special toys or other comfort items are welcome as well. If sedation is necessary for cleaning or procedures, we are happy to discuss the options we have available.
