Kid’s Dental Sealants in Commerce City, CO

What are Kid's Dental Sealants?

Even if your child is brushing and flossing twice a day, it may not be enough to prevent all cavities. Teeth have lots of nooks and crannies that brushing and flossing may not reach. Dental sealants offer another layer of protection, and both primary and permanent teeth can be of benefit.

Sealants are designed to protect the tooth’s enamel from bacteria, and they can be easily applied and offer years of lasting protection. Sealants can last for up to 10 years and have been proven to reduce cavities by more than 70%.

At each dental cleaning, the team at Reunion Pediatric Dentistry will check for wear and tear on the sealants and if needed, more will be applied.

If your child is prone to cavities, we’ll discuss whether or not this treatment is right for them.

About the Dental Sealants Procedure

Reunion Pediatric Dentistry specializes in dentistry for young children, and we have years of experience in dental sealant services. Applying dental sealants is a quick and effective process that results in long-term protection.

Dental sealants are one way pediatric dentists like Dr. Tippets help protect your children’s teeth from cavities and decay. Dental sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars (the back teeth) in order to fill the tiny grooves in the tooth, also known as “pits and fissures.” Without dental sealants, bacteria and food particles can get trapped in these grooves and cavities can develop. Dental sealants smooth out the chewing surfaces of the back teeth with a clear coating that makes them less likely to develop cavities. Because a sealed tooth is far less likely to develop a cavity, it can save your child from developing a toothache and save you from having to spend money on more extensive dental treatment like fillings or crowns.

Sealants are placed during routine dental cleanings after Dr. Tippets has examined the teeth. If minimal decay is already present, we will remove it gently. To apply the dental sealants, the teeth are first cleaned and dried thoroughly. Then a solution is placed on the surface of the teeth to ensure that the sealant will bond to the teeth. The solution is then wiped off, rinsed, and dried. Finally, the sealant is painted onto the enamel of the tooth where it will harden and bond to the tooth. The procedure is done in practically no time at all, and your child will have the lasting protection they need for the health of their teeth.

This simple painless process can help prevent decay and toothaches! It’s one of the services we are proud to offer at Reunion Pediatric Dentistry.
